Doctor Who completed its series on the CBC
http://www.cbc.ca/television last night. Episode 13 (The Parting Of
The Ways) evidently aired uncut, including the notice at the start
of the closing credits that Doctor Who will return in "The Christmas
Invasion". Amusingly, the notice at the end of the Coronation Street
episode right before Doctor Who said that Canadian Antiques Roadshow
was on next. Doctor Who reruns will *not* air on Tuesdays in Canada,
but a repeat season continues Sundays at 7PM on the CBC in all time
zones (7:30PM in Newfoundland).
New Zealand Who broadcaster Prime TV http://www.primetv.co.nz has issued a press pack on the new Doctor Who series and allowed the New Zealand Doctor Who Fan Club to host it online at http://nzdwfc.tetrap.com/screenings/prime . Warning, the press pack contains mild spoilers for some episodes. It also has a comedically bad description of a Slitheen. Looks like the first 6 episodes at least will air with no pre-emptions or time changes. You've already read earlier and will read later in the column that the series premieres on Thursday 7 July at 7:30PM. Prime is the 5th broadcaster (excluding airplanes and special showings) to air the series.
Are you flying this summer? Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Air
New Zealand, Singapore Airways, Thompsonfly - all have been reported
this year as purchasers of the series. If you happen to be on one of
these airlines and the in-flight entertainment is running check and
see which episodes (if any) are flying so we can get a more precise
picture of when Doctor Who was airing in various places. If you've
already seen an episode or two on one of these planes, please e-mail
in with the date, which episode(s), the airline, and any unusual
features (anything cut, picture modified, subtitles, etc).
We have a sighting of Rose, the first episode, on Virgin Atlantic
last weekend on a flight from the US to the UK.
Most of the final BARB ratings for BBC3 broadcasts of Doctor Who on
the 18th/19th June came are in this column this week, but the BBC1
information wasn't out when the column went to press. Outpost
Gallifrey http://www.gallifreyone.com will probably have the final
figures for BBC 1 later today, and all of that weekend's numbers
will be in next week's column.
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who
international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.
